It never occurred to me to become a writer until I read Aristotle’s Poetics. From that day forward, no other discourse on storytelling has served me as well as this relatively short, but profound analysis of story structure.
Writing each day while Aristotle is looking over my shoulder makes me continuously aware of his expectations for storytelling and of my responsibility to live up to those expectations.
